Can't connect / getting massive lag spikes 🙁

Hey, I've been having a problem for the past few days where my ping jumps from ~40 to 200+ randomly while on the ESA CS 1.6 server. My internet is fine for everything else (tested on speedtest and other games).

What I've tried:

Restarting router

Using rate 25000 in console

Flushing DNS

Any ideas? 🙁

Hey! First thing to check — what are your CS 1.6 rate settings? For a standard 20Mbps+ connection:

rate 25000
cl_updaterate 101
cl_cmdrate 101
ex_interp 0

Also check if your ISP has any routing issues to Romania — you can run a tracert to the server IP.

Also worth checking: do you have any background downloads running? Steam updates love to spike your connection. Also Windows Update is sneaky 💀 Try disabling those during play.

It was Windows Update 💀 💀 💀 I paused it and the lag spikes completely disappeared. Feeling dumb but thank you both! 😄 Problem solved!
