Guide: CS 1.6 autoexec.cfg for Competitive Play ๐Ÿ†

A good autoexec.cfg makes a huge difference. Here is my recommended template:

// Network
rate 25000
cl_updaterate 101
cl_cmdrate 101
ex_interp 0

// Video performance
gl_vsync 0
fpscap 101

// Game feel
cl_bob 0
cl_bobcycle 0
v_centermove 0
v_centerspeed 9999

// Buy binds
bind "kp_ins" "buy deagle"
bind "kp_del" "buy ak47; buy m4a1"
bind "kp_end" "buy awp"
bind "kp_downarrow" "buy vesthelm"
bind "kp_pgdn" "buy flashbang; buy flashbang; buy hegrenade; buy smokegrenade"

// Misc
hud_fastswitch 1
cl_righthand 1

Save as autoexec.cfg in your cstrike/ folder. Questions welcome! ๐Ÿ‘

This is gold ๐Ÿ’ฏ The buy binds especially โ€” I've been using the default menu for years. Time to actually set up my autoexec properly. Can I ask โ€” what does ex_interp 0 actually do vs a value like 0.1?

what does ex_interp 0 actually do

ex_interp controls entity interpolation โ€” essentially how the client smooths out movement. Setting it to 0 lets the server-side value take over (usually optimal). A value like 0.1 adds extra smoothing which can look nicer but introduces slight latency. For competitive play: 0 is the way. ๐Ÿ‘
