Half-Life 1 mods — Hidden Gems ❤️

Everyone knows CS 1.6 and TFC but there were so many incredible HL1 mods that most people never played. Some of my favourites:

  • Opposing Force — the official Gearbox expansion, criminally underrated

  • Science and Industry — team-based mod, unique mechanics

  • Ricochet — yes, the meme game, but it's actually fun with friends 😄

  • Firearms — realistic combat mod before that was really a genre

Firearms! I haven't seen that name in years. The reload animations were incredibly detailed for a HL1 mod. Also shoutout to Natural Selection — real-time strategy meets FPS, genuinely innovative. Nothing like it at the time. 🔥

Natural Selection is a good shout. Also Day of Defeat before it got the Source treatment — the original HL1 version had a rougher feel that somehow worked better. And Action Half-Life for pure chaos. 😄 Those were the days ❤️
