Question about CS 1.6 choke and packet loss 🙁

Hi, I'm getting choke values of 30-50 shown in net_graph. My connection seems fine on other games. Server ping is fine (~40ms) but the choke is ruining the gameplay — bullets registering late, rubber-banding, etc.

Any advice?

Choke fix guide:

Choke means your client is sending commands faster than the server can handle. Fix:

rate 25000
cl_cmdrate 60
cl_updaterate 60
ex_interp 0.01

If the server is 60-tick (which our public server is), setting cmdrate higher than the server tickrate causes choke. Try setting cmdrate to exactly 60.

Also check if your router has QoS enabled — sometimes QoS throttles gaming traffic incorrectly. Disabling it helped me a lot on the same type of issue. 👍

Setting cmdrate to 60 fixed it! Choke is now 0 consistently. 🎉 Thanks so much, never knew cmdrate mattered that much. The guide should probably be stickied for new players.
